3rd Annual Careers in Construction underway

More than 200 middle school students from the Southeast Kansas area are on Fort Scott Community College's Construction Trades Program campuses in Fort Scott and Pittsburg this week. FSCC is currently hosting its 3rd annual event for Careers in Construction week which began Tuesday and will continue through Thursday.
According to a press release from FSCC, eighth grade students from Fort Scott Middle School, Northeast Junior High (Arma), Frontenac Junior High, Girard Middle School and Baxter Springs Middle School are participating in various construction activities including the use of palm sanders, routers, miter saws and drills. In addition students will have the opportunity to do brick laying, mortar spreading, backhoe and skid loader operation.
Under the direction of FSCC Instructors Kim Coates and Nacoma Oehme students will have the opportunity to build a project while at this event to take home with them. The event is designed to spark an interest in the construction trades industry and to inspire future residential and commercial builders.
