Pleasanton wins Three Rivers girls' title

BURLINGTON, Kan. -- Each year, the schools of the Three Rivers League gather to take part in the Burlington Invitational, which also serves as the TRL championship meet.

Here Friday, Pleasanton's girls finished fifth overall but were the best of the Three Rivers League schools, making them the TRL champion.

Northeast won the boys' team title with a nearly perfect total of 17 points. Oswego was second with 31 and Pleasanton third with 32. The Blu-Jays were eighth overall.

Meagan Leavitt of Pleasanton was TRL girls' champ with a time of 18 minutes, 12 seconds over four kilometers. Uniontown's Kelli Wilkinson was second in 18:52. Savannah Smith of Pleasanton finished fifth in 19:33.

Overall, Leavitt was 9th and Smith finished 26th. Wilkinson's place among the entire field was not reported.

Also for Pleasanton, Savanna Reynolds finished ninth in the TRL and 39th overall with a personal-best time of 20:34. Jana Pavlikova was 10th in TRL standings and 47th overall in 21:21. Ciandra Troth finished 11th in the league and 48th overall in 21:24. And Autumn Secrest was 12th in the league and 51st overall in a personal-best 21:40.

On the boys' side, Pleasanton's Zach Willis was sixth among league runners and 25th overall in 20:38. Brandon Hensley was 10th in the league and 39th overall in 21:56. Caleb Megulin placed 17th in the TRL and 59th overall in 23:03. John Epps finished 19th in the league 23:30, which was 66th overall. And A.J. Snow was 22nd in the league and 76th overall in 25:13.

Uniontown's Jonathan Wheeler finished eighth among league runners in 21:36, Dakota Henderson 14th in 22:45 and Alex Bradbury 18th in 23:16. Overall placing was not reported.

The next meet for both schools will be the Jayhawk-Linn Class 2A Regional Meet at Sugar Valley Golf Course just outside of Mound City on October 22. The girls' race will begin at 2 p.m. with the boys to follow at 2:30.
