Senior Sabrena McAnulty finished sixth and she and her Uniontown teammates finished third as a team in a Class 3-2-1A Regional Golf Tournament hosted by the Eagles at Woodland Hills Golf Course here Monday.

The morning rain did not delay the start of the tournament but might have made conditions a little rough. Only one golfer finished under 100.

McAnulty shot 53 on the front nine and 56 on the back to finish with a score of 109. Lindsey Oneal of Fredonia was the winner at 47-49--96. Madison Fields of Caney Valley was third at 106.

Caney Valley, which had five medalists (top-10 players), won the team title at 431 with Fredonia one stroke behind at 432. Uniontown finished with a 484 while Galena shot 492, Eureka 502 and Yates Center 571. Pomona-West Franklin had only three players and was not eligible for the team title.

Also going to State for the Eagles will be Emily Simpson, who shot 61-61--122 and finished 20th, Jordan Mason, 61-64--125; Veronica Harrison, 66-62--128; Sara Heiman, 67-73--140; and Monica Ramsey, 61-84--145.

"I'm excited for the girls," Uniontown head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "We thought we were going to get third but after seeing some of the scores Galena scored, I thought we could miss out.

"I was really happy with the way some of our younger girls played. Sabrena, our senior, played really well. And our first-year golfer, Jordan, shot really well, had our third-best score."

McAnulty will be going to her third consecutive State Tournament. She, Simpson and Harrison were members of the team that qualified two years ago.

Class 3-2-1A State will be held Monday at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

NOTES -- Each member of the top three teams and the top five players who were not on those teams qualified for State. This means that 23 of the 35 golfers in this tournament went on to State....

Only nine holes were used as some of the others at the golf course have not fully recovered after being neglected between the period that the former owners closed the course and the City of Fort Scott purchased it. The front nine was played from the white tees and the back nine was played from the red tees....

There was only one tie for a medal: Caney's Aspen Gustus and Aevri Crowe and Fredonia's Tori Cox tied for ninth at 114. In post-season play, the scorecard playoff is not used and ties for medals go to sudden-death playoffs.

Gustus scored better on the first playoff hole and claimed ninth place. But it took another six holes -- over an hour and a half -- before Crowe was able to better Cox for 10th place....

Each school except Eureka qualified at least one golfer to State....
