Area golfers prepare for Regionals
GARNETT -- Area golfers played one last regular-season tournament here Monday as they prepare for Regional Tournament play next Monday.
Uniontown's team finished sixth out of nine at the Anderon County Invitational, an 18-hole affair, with a four-woman score of 431. Fort Scott finished eighth at 461.
"Even though we didn't place as a team or place any individuals, we had our best team showing of the season," Fort Scott head coach Karen Curran said. "It just so happens that so did just about every other team.
"It was great for the girls to play the course as well as they did. It sure helps to boost their confidence level for Monday's Regional Tournament at the same course."
The highest area finisher was Uniontown's Sabrena McAnulty, who finished in 16th place with a 48 on the front nine and a 51 on the back for a total of 99.
Fort Scott's Karley Stark posted new personal bests for both nine and 18 holes as she tied for 18th at 52-51--103. Uniontown's Veronica Harrison finished tied for 21st at 56-48--104. Emily Simpson placed 27th for the Eagles at 51-55--106.
Fort Scott's Morgan Robertson improved her personal-best for 18 holes by 24 strokes as she finished at 58-52--110. Laine Parks shot 57-64--121, Natalie Wolf 64-63--127 and Hayden Shelden 72-69--141 for the Tigers. Wolf's 57 was a new low for nine and her total was a new low for 18. Wolf also set new bests for 9 and 18 holes. Shelden took 14 strokes off her previous 18-hole score.
For Uniontown, Jordan Mason finished at 61-61--122, Sara Heiman at 64-69--133 and Monica Ramsey at 70-79--149.
Girard was the team winner with its score of 369. Anderson County was second at 373 with Caney Valley third at 385.
Timbrelee McNair of Girard won her fifth tournament of the season as she finished at 40-40--80. Teammate Carly Heatherly was the runner-up at 44-43--87.
Uniontown will host the Class 3-2-1A Regional Tournament at Woodland Hills Golf Course starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Caney Valley, Eureka, Fredonia, Galena, Pomona-West Franklin and Yates Center will also be present.
The Tigers return to Garnett for the Anderson County Class 4A Regional at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail, Chanute, Columbus, Girard, Lenexa St. James and Spring Hill will also attend.
