Jayhawks take league lead from Eagles
MOUND CITY -- Jayhawk-Linn defeated Uniontown's volleyball team in three games here Tuesday night, taking the lead in the Three Rivers League.
The Eagles (6-1 TRL, 18-5 overall) took the other two matches in the quadrangular from Chetopa and Marmaton Valley.
Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said that she made a chance after finishing fourth at Cherryvale Saturday, moving Lauren Rockhold to libero.
"With only one day to practice, we were a bit hesitant with the new look," Hall said. "As the evening progressed, we seemed to relax and be more comfortable on the floor."
Jayhawk-Linn took the opening match from Uniontown, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22. Ashley Nietfeld had 5 kills and Hayden Rathbun had 4. Tayler Shook handed out 10 assists.
Uniontown swept Chetopa, 25-8, 25-3. Nietfeld had 6 kills and Shook dealt 21 assists.
The Eagles beat Marmaton Valley in the final match, 25-12, 25-10. Nietfeld had 4 kills and Shook handed out 10 assists.
In junior varsity play, Uniontown defeated Chetopa, 25-11, 25-9, as Emily Shinn had 3 kills. Jayhawk-Linn defeated the Eagles twice -- 25-18, 25-19 and 29-27, 25-17.
Uniontown hosts Pleasanton and Crest in league play next Tuesday for "Dig Pink" night.
