4-Hers place in state Junior Livestock Show
Eighteen Bourbon County 4-H members exhibited in the Kansas Junior Livestock Show in Wichita Sept. 23-25.
There were more than 1,234 entries during this three day show held at the Kansas Coliseum.
There were 102 steers, 257 heifers, 264 barrows, 229 lambs, 197 ewes, and 185 goats exhibited during the 79th annual event.
Hayden Cole had the champion Duroc market hog. John Emmerson stood first in his class of crossbred steers, while Kolby Seested had a class winning commercial heifer.
Jaxon Pitts exhibited a class winner in the crossbred market hogs, and Kaitlyn Hanks showed a commercial ewe which was top in her class. Other top ten class winners from the county were: Kristy Beene -- fourth in class of Charolais heifers; Clay Brillhart -- fourth and sixth in classes of crossbred lambs, 13th in commercial ewe classes; Hayden Cole -- seventh in class of dark crossbred barrows, seventh and eighth in class of commercial ewes; Jonah Ericson -- third in class of Angus heifers; Cole George -- sixth in commercial heifer class; Drew George -- sixth in shorthorn steer class; Chase Gleason --fifth in class of Simmental heifers; Kaitlyn Hanks, second in class of crossbred market lambs, seventh and 10th in her crossbred barrow classes, sixth in a meat goat class and 10th in class of commercial ewes; Tyler Harvey -- 8th in class of crossbred barrows; Kourtney Heaton -- second in class of meat goats; Clayton Nading -- fourth in class of Hampshire barrows; Danielle Nading --second and eighth in meat goat class, sixth in Yorkshire market hog class; Jaxon Pitts -- seventh in class of meat goats; Aubry Ruggles -- seventh and 10th in class of commercial ewes; Dylan Ruggles -- fourth in class of commercial ewes; Haley Ruggles -- seventh in class of commercial ewes and ninth in crossbred market lamb class.
Bourbon County 4-H clubs represented at KJLS were Barnstormers, Goodluck, Hiattville, Northeast Scott, Pawnee and Uniontown.
