Kramer, FSCC Hall of Famer, passes at 92
Woodrow "Woody" Kramer, a Fort Scott Junior College graduate and former Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Community College coach, died Thursday at Elm Grove Estates in Hutchinson. He was 92.
Kramer attended Pittsburg State Teachers College following graduation from what is now FSCC. He returned to Fort Scott and coached the high school's football and basketball teams for three seasons each from 1943-44 to 1945-46. He also served as FSCC basketball coach for three games of the 1945-46 season.
Kramer moved to Hutchinson in 1946 where he would remain for the rest of his life. He became the head track coach at Hutchinson High School that year. He was named athletic director in 1956 while retaining coaching duties then moved into the AD position full time in 1975. He retired in 1984 after 39 years at Hutchinson High. He was also manager of the Class 3A State Basketball Tournament during many of the years it was held in Hutchinson.
Kramer was inducted into the Fort Scott Community College Hall of Fame in 1991.
The funeral was held Monday morning. He is survived by a daughter, two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, in 2004 and five brothers and three sisters.
