HAZEL NADINE BARNETT
Hazel Nadine Barnett, 86-year-old "Grove Icon," passed away Sept. 17, 2011, at home and surrounded by her loving family.
Hazel was born Dec. 4, 1924, to Karl and Anna Belle Flickinger.
She graduated from high school in Fort Scott, Kan., in 1942 and also attended junior college and worked in Wichita, Kan., helping with the war effort by welding on the Beechcraft Trainer.
She married Leslie "Pete" Barnett on July 25, 1945, and moved to Grove, Okla., in 1960.
Hazel was a well-known artist, member of The Brush & Palette Club and former Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. She worked as a nurse for Dr. N.A. Cotner for over 20 years.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Leslie "Pete" Barnett, her son Larry Barnett and three grandsons, Randy Boyle in 1980, David Barnett in 2002, and Zach Boyle in 2008.
Hazel was also preceeded in death by her brother Herbert Flickinger and two sisters, Alice Miller and Genevieve Ames.
Hazel is survived by daughter Ladine Boyle of Grove and son Loren Barnett of Carthage, Mo., as well as sister Pauline Butts of Kansas, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many loving friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Okla.
