JOHN MICHAEL "MIKE" LAIR
John Michael "Mike" Lair, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at the Guest Home Estates, 737 Heylman, Fort Scott, Kan. He was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Piqua, Kan., the son of Otto Lair and Anne Josephine Bux Lair.
Mike graduated from Kansas State University in 1955 where he played baseball for the Wildcats. He married Barbara Decker in 1965. She preceded him in death in 1982.
He was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He had worked as a chemist for the Woodson County Cement Plant, as well as farming. He was a member of the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Piqua, the American Legion and a former member of the Elks Club.
Survivors include a sister Marge Cramer, Iola, Kan.; a brother Virgil Lair, Chanute, Kan., and his caregiver Kevin Womelsdorf, Redfield, Kan.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister.
Father Darrin May will conduct graveside services at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel.
