Delbert L. Franklin, 62, of rural Farlington, Kan., passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at his residence in rural Farlington.

Delbert was born Oct. 14, 1948, in Girard, a son of Gilbert L. Franklin and Wilma N. (Carnall) Franklin.

Delbert graduated from Girard High School. After graduation, Delbert worked as a mechanic for K.O. Sauer Implement in Girard.

After the dealership's closing, Delbert was employed as a mechanic at Fort Scott Truck and Tractor.

Delbert then opened his own repair service in rural Farlington.

On Nov. 4, 1967, Delbert and Doris Westhoff were united in marriage in Arma, Kan. They made their home in the Greenbush area for several years before moving to their present home.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Doris, include sons Robert L. Franklin of Wann, Okla., Michael J. and wife Misty Franklin of Girard, and Kevin Franklin of Farlington; daughters Cheryl M. Franklin of Franklin, Kristy and husband Jon Tippie of Girard, Lea Ann Franklin of Arma, and Nancy and husband Lewis Merrell of Arma.

Also surviving are grandchildren Elizabeth Mae, Joel Lee, Logan Michael, Zachery Levi, Lauren Daniel, Kallee Marie, Kalaeb Lee, Tyler Matthew Tippie, Alexandria Rachael Tippie, Rianne Nicole Tippie, Aislinn Rose DeGruson, Ethan Montgomery Merrell, Reece Eugene Merrell, Breelee Kay Merrell, Clayton Bond and Jake Bond; sisters Barbara Pride of Girard, Lilia Blyth of Pittsburg and Peggy Prince of Pittsburg; brothers Kenny James Franklin of Pittsburg, Jerry Lee Franklin of Girard, Larry D. Franklin of Hepler and William E. Franklin of Girard.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steve E. Franklin, his parents, a brother, Gary Franklin, and a brother-in-law, Tom Pride.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating.

Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery at Walnut. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 1:30 p.m., Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House, and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard.
