Local gospel group to sing at concert
The local gospel music group the Cherry Jammers will be performing at the Heritage Park Pavilion, at First and Main streets in Fort Scott, at 7 p.m. July 29.
Sponsored by the Cherry Grove Baptist Church, located eight miles south of Fort Scott on U.S. Highway 69, the Cherry Jammers have previously performed in the Friday Night Concert Series, Good Ol' Days and other area events. The group primarily performs traditional country church-style gospel hymns.
With keyboard, flutes, violins, guitars, autoharp and various rhythm instruments, a wide variety of instrumentation is possible. Familiar vocal offerings include a number of solos and blended harmonies which encourage audience participation.
The performance is part of the Friday Night Concert Series, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division. The concert is free and open to the public. Those attending should remember to bring their own lawn chairs.
In the event of hot weather, the concert will adjourn to the cafeteria at Fort Scott Community College, 2108 S. Horton St.
