Cal Ripken League district tournaments under way
The boys of summer continued their quest for victory as local teams participated in the Cal Ripken Baseball League District State tournaments.
Wednesday night, the 11-year-old team from Fort Scott faced off against Osawatomie at Fisher Park. Jumping to an early lead, the Fort Scott team went on to win that game by a score of 9-5. Following their win, they then faced off against Emporia. The momentum from the first win did not carry over -- getting shut out 6-0. The 11-year-olds will play again at 6 p.m. Friday at Fisher Park.
Sixty miles north in Osawatomie, the 9-year-old Fort Scott team took on Emporia and Osawatomie winning both games 10-6 and 18-0, respectively. In addition the 10-year-old Fort Scott team faced off against Emporia and came out with a 19-1 win.
Fort Scott is also hosting the 12-year-old district tournament which began Thursday with the Fort Scott team taking on Emporia at 6 p.m. at Fisher Park and will continue on Saturday. In Osawatomie, the 13-year-olds take on the host team at 6 p.m.
Fort Scott will be hosting the 9-year-old state tournament later this month in which eight teams will take the field in a contest for the state championship. The tournament will begin July 22 and wrap up on July 25.
