Elsmore Ruritan to host celebration
Elsmore Ruritan Club's annual Independence Day celebration will be Sunday at the Elsmore community building. Hamburgers, pork burgers, hot dogs and polish sausages will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dessert and homemade ice cream will also be available.
Tickets will be sold for dessert drawings throughout the evening.
Used books will be on display for the taking and the Elsmore Community Health & Fitness Center equipment will be available for use by diners. Members of the club monitor the fitness center during open hours.
New equipment has recently been added to the center. There is no charge for either the fitness center or the books.
A free fireworks display will be held at dusk for the community. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
Elsmore Ruritan Club is a community service club. Its 28 members support the county fair, school organizations and law enforcement programs and sponsor an ice cream social at Moran Manor and a dog/cat vaccination clinic every spring, plus an Elsmore Day celebration and golf tournament in September.
Area organizations can use the club's dunk tank by contacting a member of the club. Officers are Hellen Welch, president; Gene Johnson, vice president; Clara Cunningham, secretary; Darla Henderson, treasurer; Joan LaRue, past president; Annie Vogel, Richard Ard and Gary Henderson, board members.
Members help area residents with tree removal, household chores, building and razing projects and with monetary donations.
The club has helped the past two years with development of the Elsmore playground project and with renovation of the community building to accommodate the fitness equipment. Members annually do cleanup of areas around the Bourbon/Allen County lake.
