Local legends to perform Relay for Life benefit concert

Cancer is a devastating diagnosis for far too many people. Relay for Life teams work hard each year to come up with a variety of fun ways to raise money for local chapters of the organization.

Fundraisers commonly include bake sales, drawings and auctions. This year, the Nevada Regional Medical Center Relay team wanted to do something different to raise money for cancer research.

Saturday, June 4, local talent will gather at the Nevada High School auditorium to perform in a musical showcase. Along with Dr. Jennifer Conley, performers include Shanna Johnson, Wes Morton, Lori Bartlett, Tim Wilson, Jara Mumaw, Ginelle Esry, Paula Newman and Mallory Ast. The show begins at 7 p.m. After the singing portion of the evening, there will be a special ceremony dedicated to cancer survivors and those who have lost the battle.

"We want to get the message out to people that cancer is prevalent and we must do everything we can to support research and support those in need whether it be financially, spiritually or emotionally," Tim Wilson said.

Donations will be accepted at the door as admission. The group hopes to pack the auditorium, raising at least $500. Monies will be donated to the Relay for Life Nevada chapter.
