Regional baseball, softball pairings set
First-round pairings for Regional baseball and softball tournaments to be held next week were released Wednesday. All tournaments are set to begin on Monday.
Fort Scott High School's baseball team has been assigned to the Spring Hill Class 4A Regional, with all of the games played at the host site. The Tigers (11-6) drew the No. 4 seed and will face fifth-seeded Paola (8-12) at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The first round begins with second-seeded Iola (16-2) facing No. 7 Louisburg (5-12) at noon. That will be followed by a 2:15 contest between No. 3 Spring Hill (13-6) and No. 6 Anderson County (7-13). The winner of those games will face each other at 4:30 Tuesday.
The first round concludes with a 6:45 contest between top seed Osawatomie (17-1) and No. 8 Prairie View (5-12). The winner of that game plays the Fort Scott-Paola winner at 2 p.m Tuesday. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Fort Scott's softball team is in the Osawatomie Class 4A Regional with first-round games held at the home field of the higher-seeded team.
The Tigers (12-6) are the No. 2 seed and will play No. 7 Iola (3-16) at 5:30 Monday at Don Hewitt Field. Fort Scott swept Iola, 11-0 and 17-2, in a home league doubleheader Monday.
If the Tigers win, they will face the winner of the game at Ottawa between the third-seeded Cyclones (12-8) and No. 6 Louisburg (5-15). That semifinal will be held at Osawatomie at 4:45 Tuesday.
Paola (14-4) is the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 Anderson County (1-17) Monday while No. 4 Prairie View (11-9) entertains No. 5 Osawatomie (7-13). The winners of those games will face each other at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Osawatomie. The championship game will be played Tuesday at 6:30.
Uniontown's softball team is the No. 3 seed in the Frontenac Class 3A Regional. The Eagles (13-7) will host Southeast (6-13) Monday at 5:30. If they win, they'll face the winner of the game between No. 7 Erie (0-20) and No. 2 Riverton (14-3) at 4:45 Tuesday at Frontenac.
Riverton is the defending Class 3A State champion and also won Class 4A in 2009.
The top half of the bracket has No. 5 Galena (9-11) traveling to No. 4 Northeast (11-9) Monday while top-seeded Frontenac (16-3) enjoys a bye in anticipation of meeting the winner at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The championship game will be played at 6:30 Tuesday.
Uniontown's baseball team (6-12) is the No. 5 seed in the Burlington Class 3A Regional and will head to Central Heights (8-12) to face the fourth-seeded Vikings at Garst Field in Princeton Monday at 5 p.m. Top-seeded Council Grove (20-0), which has drawn a bye, will play the winner Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Burlington.
Second-seeded Burlington (15-5) also has a bye and will await the winner of Monday's game between No. 6 Osage City (4-16) and No. 3 Pomona-West Franklin (14-6). Burlington faces the winner at 4:30 Tuesday. The championship will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Jayhawk-Linn's softball team (14-5) is the No. 1 seed in the Marmaton Valley Class 2-1A Regional Tournament and has drawn a bye. Chetopa (12-6), the No. 2 seed also has a bye.
Jayhawk-Linn will face the winner of Monday's game at Oswego between the fourth-seeded Indians (7-13) and Marmaton Valley (6-12). Chetopa will be pitted against the winner of Monday's game at Pittsburg between No. 3 Colgan (7-11) and No. 6 St. Paul (5-10).
Tuesday, the semifinal involving Jayhawk-Linn will start at 2 p.m. with the one involving Chetopa following at 3:30. The championship will be held at 5:30.
Jayhawk-Linn's baseball team looks to return to the Class 2-1A State Tournament but will have to defeat the defending champion on its home field to do so as the Jayhawks are in Colgan's Class 2-1A Regional.
Top-seeded Colgan (15-3) and second-seeded St. Paul (12-3) have drawn byes. Jayhawk-Linn (9-10), the third seed, will host No. 6 Chetopa (3-15) at 5 p.m. Monday. The winner plays St. Paul at 4:30 Tuesday at Jaycee Ball Park.
Oswego (6-12), the No. 5 seed, plays at No. 4 Marmaton Valley (6-12) Monday with the winner taking on Colgan at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The championship game will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
