Opal Irene McKee

Opal Irene McKee, 95, of Fort Scott, died Saturday morning, April 30, 2011, at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott.

She was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Jackson County, W.Va., the daughter of Herman Carl and Mamie (Franklin) Alexander. She married Herschel Richard McKee in May of 1933 in West Virginia. He preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1983.

Survivors include her children: William Dale McKee of Canton, Ohio, Connie L. Smith and Ruth A. Widder of Fort Scott, Kan., Gaynel S. Stark of Jewett, Ohio, Karen K. Grimsley of Newark, Ohio, Robert Leo McKee of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Herschel, Opal was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Freda Lane and Corrine Alexander, and a brother, Hobert Alexander.

Services for Opal will be on Monday, May 9, 2011, in Canton, Ohio, and burial will be in the Sunset Hills Burial Park. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., Fort Scott, Kan. Online condolences may be emailed to expressions@konantz-cheney.com
