Uniontown softball posts league sweep

UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Uniontown's softball team swept Altoona-Midway in a Three Rivers League doubleheader here Thursday by scores of 11-0 and 9-2.

With the sweep, the Eagles improved to 9-1 in league play and 12-2 overall.

Uniontown clinched the first game with an 8-run second inning that made it 10-0 at the time. The game was stopped after 5 innings.

Shook (8-2) allowed 5 walks and struck out 4 in the first three innings. Mandie Ridge took over for the final 2 innings, allowing the Jets' only hit, no walks and striking out 3.

The Eagles had 8 players collect 1 hit each with Jessie Camac and Tiffany Poyner each belting doubles.

The second game went all 7 innings but Taylor Wade (4-0) allowed just 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. This game was closer initially, with Uniontown ahead just 3-2 after 4 1/2 innings before exploding for 6 in the bottom of the fifth.

Shook and Wade had 2 hits each for the Eagles.

Uniontown played a make-up doubleheader at Jayhawk-Linn Friday. The Eagles are scheduled to host Humboldt in a doubleheader Thursday.
