Aikins wins three events at SCC meet
BURLINGTON, Kan. -- Uniontown's Emily Aikins won three events at the Southern Coffey County Invitational here Thursday.
It was the Eagles' second visit to Burlington in three days for meets that were hosted by other schools. They were here Tuesday for the Waverly meet.
Aikins claimed the titles in long jump at 15 feet, 5 inches, the 100-meter dash in 13.81 seconds and the 200 meters in 28.24.
The teams that were here managed to fight off the rain and chill with Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall saying that the meet was completed before the worst conditions settled in.
Rachel Henderson finished in fourth place in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and Abby Dixon was fourth in discus for the Eagle girls.
Boys' medalists were Trenton Miller, third in discus and fifth in shot put, and Carter Wood, sixth in high jump.
"Our athletes did a good job competing at this meet," Hall said. "Carter competed well in the high jump even though the conditions were not the best at the time. He was jumping in the rain."
Uniontown hosts its annual home track and field meet Monday, weather permitting. Events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the high school stadium.
