Governor names Locke to Kansas Volunteer Commission

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback on Thursday announced numerous appointments to boards and commissions.

"I appreciate the willingness of these Kansans to give of their time, energy, and talent. With their help, we will make our great state even better," Brownback said in a news release.

Jeffrey Locke, Arma, was one appointee named to the Kansas Volunteer Commission.

Locke is is a visual art instructor at Fort Scott Community College and currently serves on the Arma City Council. He will serve a two-year term on the commission to fill the vacancy of his predecessor, the release said.

Volunteer commission members come from all over the state and represent a variety of organizations, communities and values. They oversee and direct the work of KVC staff to develop and fund service programs in Kansas and help connect Kansans with volunteer and service opportunities. Members serve for a term of three years and commit to six bimonthly meetings held throughout the state.

Other volunteer commission appointees are:

*Connie Stewart, Hoyt, currently director of the Foster Grandparent Program Northeast Kansas. This is her second appointment to the commission.

*Diane Hentges, Kansas City, is director of the Volunteer Center at the United Way of Wyandotte County. She is being re-appointed to the commission.

*Sammy Peck, Tecumseh, has 13 years experience as owner/general agent of the W.L. High Insurance Agency as well as obtaining a master's degree in educational administration from Washburn University.
