JV Tigers second at Parsons
PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team finished in third place at a tournament held here Monday. Parsons Blue was the winner followed by Independence and Fort Scott.
Both doubles teams took second place with 2-1 records while both singles entrants went 1-2.
The No. 1 doubles team of Brett Allen and Austin Rogers had wins over Benaveois/Williamson of Parsons Gold and McNay/Diel of Pittsburg by 6-3 scores. They lost to Meorlein/Bearomore of Parsons Blue, 6-3.
Gage Addington and Hayden Barr had wins over Kreech/Kutz of Pittsburg, 6-2, and Linthicum/Kellogg of Labette County, 6-1, in No. 2 doubles. Their loss came at the hands of Dalton and Thatcher Murdock of Parsons Blue, 6-2.
Marcus Brennan played No. 1 singles for the Tigers, finishing fourth. He defeated Cody Fought of LCHS, 6-3, lost to Kevin DeBold of Parsons Blue, 6-1, and lost in a tie-breaker to John Colbert of Parsons Gold, 7-6 (12-10).
Chad Hazlip was Fort Scott's No. 2 singles player, also going 1-2 as he finished seventh. He lost to Austin Whitson of Independence, 6-0, and Aiden Carter of LCHS, 6-2, before taking the seventh-place match over Alex Carismas of Chanute, 6-3.
The JV Tigers will play their home tournament Monday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
