Elsmore Ruritan Club plans breakfast at community building
Submitted to the Tribune
Elsmore Ruritan Club will sponsor a breakfast Saturday morning at the Elsmore community building from 8 to 10 a.m. Club members will serve pancakes, biscuits and gravy -- with or without sausage -- and a drink for a free-will donation.
Tickets will be available for desserts which will be given out in drawings throughout the morning. In conjunction with a Ruritan National Food Drive, the club will give tickets for each non-perishable food item brought to the breakfast. Ticket monies and canned goods will be delivered to a local community pantry in May. Last September, the club gave 40 pounds of food and $40 collected at Elsmore Day to the Iola Community Pantry.
Diners will also have an opportunity to see and use the newly opened Elsmore Community Health & Fitness Center. Equipment includes a treadclimber, elliptical, a stationary bike, exercise benches/weights and an exercise ball. The club also sponsors a book swap. Attendees can bring used books and exchange them for others. There is no charge for the fitness center, or book swap.
Elsmore Ruritan Club is a 28-member community service organization. The club supports the Allen County Fair, Marmaton Valley High School organizations, Moran, Bronson, Stark and Savonburg days and youth activities sponsored by Allen County Law Enforcement and the Iola Police Department. It also sponsors the Independence Day and Elsmore Day celebrations, ice cream socials at Moran Manor Nursing Center and a dog/cat vaccination clinic.
Members help area residents with tree removal, household chores, building and razing projects and with monetary donation. The club has helped the past two years with development of the city of Elsmore playground project and renovation of the community building to accommodate the fitness equipment.
Members annually conduct a clean-up of areas around the Bourbon/Allen County lake.
