JOHNNY R. MOYER
Johnny R. Moyer, 85, of Haysville, Kan., passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home in Haysville, with his wife by his side.
He was born April 19, 1925, the fourth of six children, to Ernest O. and Edith Pearl (Runkle) Moyer of Fort Scott, Kan.
Johnny was a WWII veteran having served in the 17th, 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions from 1943-1947.
He was a 37-year employee of the Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, having worked as an aircraft mechanic in the modification shop and flight line.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Moyer; sons, Glen of Houston, Texas, and Lonny (Karen) of Manassas, Va.; grandchildren, Glen Jr., Jacquelyn, Rebecca, and Sean; great-grandchildren, Trysten and Isaac; and sister, Dorothy Hall of Woodland, Calif. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, David and Donald; and sisters, Virginia Young and Helen Hall.
There will be a funeral service in Haysville at the Smith Mortuary 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
Burial with graveside services will be in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 9 and leave for the cemetery at 9:45 a.m.
Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Detail. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to home Health of Kansas, Hospice 7607 E. Harry, Wichita, Kan., 67207.
