Fort Scott JV tennis opens season

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team opened its season Thursday as head coach Lynn Barr brought two teams to an invitational here.

The Fort Scott Red team won the tournament title by one point over Pittsburg Purple. Pittsburg White was third followed by Fort Scott White and Chanute.

Fort Scott White finished only two points behind Pittsburg white even though the White Tigers didn't have a No. 2 doubles team.

Fort Scott players finished first and second in No. 1 singles and in No. 1 doubles.

"Everyone played hard and gave us a good effort," Barr said. "We have a lot of players at the JV level who are showing a lot of promise and will hopefully continue to develop and help our varsity team in the coming season."

Brett Allen won the No. 1 doubles division, going 4-0 while Marcus Brennan was second with a 3-1 record. Austin Sather and Austin Rogers were first in No. 1 doubles, also with a 4-0 mark, and Matt Hull and Wyatt Hulbert placed second at 3-1.

Gage Addington and Michael Flater finished in third place in No. 2 doubles with a 2-2 record. Hayden Barr was fourth in No. 2 singles at 1-3 and Chad Hazlip finished fifth with an 0-5 record.

The next outing for the JV will be March 28 against Nevada in Fort Scott. The Tigers' varsity teams will also face each other that day.
