Car vs. pedestrian

Emergency personnel prepare to load Charles Harris III, of Hepler, into an ambulance shortly after an accident that took place about 2:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Seventh Street and National Avenue. Fort Scott Police Department Sgt. Corey Richmeier said Patricia Bolton, of Fort Scott, was driving a 1996 Grand Marquis four-door passenger car southbound on National when, for unknown reasons, she struck Harris, a surveyor who was standing near the curb-line surveying land on the west side of the street. Harris rolled beneath the undercarriage of the vehicle. He was transported to Mercy Health Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident. A hospital spokeswoman said Harris was treated and released. Bolton's driving actions also caused her to strike a parked 1995 Ford Bronco, Richmeier said. There was no dollar damage estimate for either vehicle. The front bumper of Bolton's vehicle was damaged and damage to the Bronco was "not significant," Richmeier said. (Jason E. Silvers/Tribune)
