Fort Scott Tiger forensics double up on weekend wins

The Tigers forensics team kept up their winning ways this past weekend, Feb. 12, by doubling up on overall sweepstakes honors.

At Coffeyville, Fort Scott overwhelmed the competition, placing 27 events into finals. This individual success, allowed the team to win the tournament by a margin of nearly 60 points.

The second prong of the team competed at Blue Valley West. This was a faction of mostly first-year competitors representing Fort Scott. Though young, they too found success as nine finalists helped earn a third-place sweepstakes finish. In just three weeks of competition the Tigers have earned six sweepstakes honors with three of those being championships.

Along with team accomplishments, individually Fort Scott has also qualified in 24 events in the state championship tournament. To accomplish this feat, a student must finish first or second at a tournament in that event. A full state teams is 16, so already the Tigers will need to make some decisions come May.

Coach Weilert commented, "It is a good problem to have. Many schools will struggle to get to the magic number of 16 in order to field a full state entry. We will have to narrow down to that number. Last year, we qualified in 70 events. The season is still young. We will have to see which kids are consistently finishing in the top two."
