Benefit dinner to help Henson family

Thursday, January 27, 2011

A benefit dinner to help raise funds for a family with ties to the area is scheduled for Sunday.

The benefit for Steve Henson, a resident of Columbus, will be held Sunday at the Diamond 6-D Arena 521, located on East McKay in Frontenac.

Henson's wife is a Bronaugh, Mo., native.

The event is slated to begin at noon with a hog roast, which will run until 3 p.m.

An auction will start at 2 p.m., featuring items such as a saddle rack, gift baskets from area salons, bags of feed, homemade stick horses, and more. Proceeds will go toward medical and living expenses for the Henson family.

Henson broke his leg on Dec. 6 which resulted in the replacement of his femur and hip, which had also been affected by a tumor.

He has also been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma, the second-most common form of nonmelanoma skin cancer following basal cell carcinoma.
