'Hound women shoot lights out in victory

HIGHLAND -- Every Greyhound scored in Fort Scott Community College women's 78-69 victory over Highland in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play here Saturday afternoon.

Fort Scott shot 50 percent from the field, making 28 of 56 field-goal tries. But the Greyhounds hit on 58 percent of their 3-pointers, making 11 of 19, and also went 11 of 14 at the free-throw line.

The 'Hounds (3-5 East, 6-14 overall) have won two in a row, the first time they've done so since winning at Kansas City and at Cloud County late last season.

Kendra Mattox led Fort Scott with 18 points as she connected on 4 of 5 3-point shots and 6 of 12 field-goal tries overall. Brittany Crow broke out of a slump with 14 points as she hit 4 of 6 3-point shots.

Jolee Sharp added 12 points for the 'Hounds while Kerenza Singletary added 10 and also led FSCC with 9 rebounds.

Highland (2-6, 10-10), which has lost 5 of its last 6 games after winning 5 in a row before that, shot 45 percent from the floor on 28 of 61 but made only 5 of 16 3-pointers.

Kayla Dishon led the Scotties with 20 points. Tracie Weege added 14, Jasmine Lockwood 12 and Kaylin Hollacker 10.

Sharp also dished 4 assists for Fort Scott while Mattox had 7 rebounds.

Fort Scott plays at Kansas City Kansas Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Blue Devils (4-3, 13-6) played a make-up game against Johnson County Monday night.
