Eagle girls defeat Altoona-Midway

PLEASANTON -- Uniontown's girls broke a two-game losing streak by defeating Altoona-Midway, 48-30, in the first round of the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament here Tuesday afternoon.

Breanna Esslinger scored 15 points to lead the Eagles (5-4) while Hope Jurgensen added 10 points. Jurgensen and Hayden Rathbun were each credited with 9 rebounds. Tayler Shook dished 4 assists.

"This was a good win for us," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "We didn't shoot very well but the girls played hard and did a lot of good things. Bre got some really good looks against their 3-2 zone."

Uniontown shot just 29 percent from the field, making 15 of 51 field-goal attempts. But they also held the Jets (2-6) to 24 percent on 10 of 42.

The Eagles are set to play the winner of Central Heights, a 63-14 victor over Crest, in Thursday's semifinal. The game time will be determined later today.
