PARSONS -- Parsons outscored Fort Scott High's boys 34-16 in the second half here Tuesday night and came away with a 59-49 victory over the Tigers in a non-league game at the Harold C. Johnson Gymnasium.

Steve Jones scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half. But it was James Jackson who gave Parsons (5-0) the lead for good by going coast-to-coast with a defensive rebound during a 11-0 third-quarter run.

The Vikings held a 7-2 lead three minutes into the contest. But The Tigers (4-3) closed the opening stanza with a 15-0 run. Griffin Knopp started the run and Gabe Quick finished it off while Cameron Woodring scored each of the 12 points in between.

Woodring's 3-point goal with just under three minutes left tied the score at 7-7 and a layup moments later gave Fort Scott the lead.

The teams traded baskets in the second quarter but Parsons was able to make up some ground by making four of five 3-point attempts in the period and pulled to within 33-25 at halftime.

Griffin Knopp's stickback basket midway through the third made it 40-33. But Jones and Johnson went on a tear, combining to score the next 8 points. Brock Borovetz scored the last 3 of the quarter to make it a 44-40 lead for Parsons.

The Tigers got within 51-48 with around three minutes to go on baskets by Cody Harper and Woodring. But Jones scored the next 4, then Wes Krull added a transition basket and Jackson hit a pair of free throws with under a minute to go.
