Fire remains under investigation
Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, the Crawford County Sheriff's Department received a report of a residential structure fire in Hepler.
The address was determined by responding units to be 606 N. Elm. The residence, owned by Travis S. Smith of Hepler, sustained a substantial amount of damage. No injuries were reported and no one was home at the time of the fire.
Units from the Hepler Fire Department, Walnut Fire Department, Sherman Township Fire Department, Brazilton Fire Department and Crawford County EMS responded to the incident.
A news release said the fire remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff's Office at this time.
In a separate incident, the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office is awaiting DNA confirmation from a lab in Johnson County on the identity of the victim of a fire in Bronson last week.
The cause of the fire is also still under investigation by the Kansas Fire Marshal's Office, the Sheriff's Office said.
