20 FSCC players make bowl appearances

In recent weeks, viewers in Fort Scott may have noticed some familiar faces among the myriad of gridiron contests on TV.

Twenty former Fort Scott Community College football players have -- or will be -- appearing in a variety of bowl games this holiday season, according to information from FSCC.

"It's really impressive. It shows the type of program we have here," said Director of Public Relations Kathleen Hinrichs.

Among them are Jasmine Hopkins of Northern Illinois University; brothers Octavious and Omar Leftwich, from Ohio University; David Lazenby from University of Tulsa; Dominique Davis, East Carolina University; Anthony Garrett, East Carolina University; David Garrett, Kansas State University; and Zach McFall, also at K-State.

Also, twins Jeremy Sutton, Josh Sutton, both at K-State University; LaVonte David, Brandon Kinnie, JaMarcus "Yoshi" Hardrick and Stanley Jean-Baptiste, all at University of Nebraska; Jacquain Williams, University of South Florida; Bryon Jerideau, University of South Carolina.

And Anthony White, Michigan State University, Derek Helton, Louisiana State University; Coryell Judie, Texas A&M University; and Greg Cross, University of Pittsburgh.

Hopkins played in the Humanitarian Bowl, Dec. 18 on ESPN; Octavious and Omar Leftwich played in the New Orleans Bowl Dec. 18 on ESPN; Lazenby will play in the Dec. 24 Hawaii Bowl on ESPN; Davis will be in the Military Bowl at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 29 on ESPN.

Anthony and David Garrett and twins Jeremy and Josh Sutton are expected to suit up for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at 1:20 p.m. Dec. 30.

Playing the Holiday Bowl, set for 9 p.m. Dec. 30 on ESPN, are LaVonte David, Brandon Kinnie, Hardrick and Jean-Baptiste, who was redshirted at FSCC.

Williams will play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 31 on ESPN.

Jerideau will play in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31 on ESPN.

Playing the Capital One Bowl is Anthony White at noon Jan. 1 on ESPN.

Helton and Judie will play in the Cotton Bowl at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 on FOX.

And Cross is scheduled to play in the Compass Bowl at 11 a.m. Jan. 8 on ESPN, according to information from the college.
