Edward L. Stevens
Edward L. Stevens, 82, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born on Feb. 2, 1928, in Sylamore, Ark., to John Edward Stevens and Flora Mae Pitts Stevens. He married Neoma Slayton on June 15, 1948, in Mountain View, Ark., and she survives of the home.
Ed was raised in Sylamore, Ark., and attended Mountain View, Ark., High School. In 1944, at the age of 16, he was hired as a lineman for the Chicago Burlington Quincy Railroad where he worked for 44 years, retiring in 1988 as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1946, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was later drafted by the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Ed and Neoma have lived in Nevada since 1954. Ed attended the Pentecostal Assembly in Nevada.
In addition to his wife Neoma, he is survived by two sons, Lance Stevens and his wife, Patty, Duluth, Minn., and Chris Stevens, Mountain View, Ark.; six grandchildren, Deidre Bruce, Nevada, Mo., Lance Stevens Jr., Kenmore, Wash., Aaron Stevens, Flagstaff, Ariz., Deandra Owen, Nevada, Mo., Trevor Stevens, Austin, Texas, and Delista Stevens, Kansas City, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Dalton, Hadley, Kyrsten, Hayden, and Landon; five brothers; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Pentecostal Assembly, Nevada, with the Rev. Shelby Brandt officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until 8 p.m., Monday, and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Monday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
