Coffeyville sweeps conference openers in routs
COFFEYVILLE -- Wednesday night's Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division openers did not go smoothly for Fort Scott Community College's basketball teams.
Coffeyville's men, ranked 13th in the nation, routed Fort Scott's men 78-41 as the Greyhounds failed to score at least 50 points for the fourth time this season.
The women scored the third-fewest points in the recorded history of the program in a 78-25 loss to the Lady Ravens. They were outscored 44-7 in the second half, their lowest point total in any half since 1996.
Coffeyville men 78, Fort Scott 41.
Alex Barner was the lone bright spot offensively for the Greyhounds (0-1 East, 0-10 overall) as he scored 16 points and made 4 of 5 3-point attempts.
But the 'Hounds shot only 32 percent from the field, making 13 of 41 field-goal attempts while Coffeyville (1-0, 10-1) connected on 30 of 61 for 49 percent.
Kevin Broussard led the Red Ravens with 12 points while Stacy Wilson and Marquis Cuyler each scored 11.
The 'Hounds have lost 33 of their last 34 games going back to last season.

Fort Scott (0-1, 1-8) turned the ball over 28 times with Coffeyville scoring 29 points off those miscues. The Greyhounds also brought down only 19 rebounds in the entire game while the Ravens (1-0, 7-4) had 38. Fort Scott had just 6 offensive boards and scored no second-chance points.
