Laurie Magee, 55, wife of Dr. Larry Magee, of Lawrence, Kan., and daughter-in-law of former Fort Scott resident Violet Magee, died Oct. 4, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 8, 2010 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

She was born May 11, 1955 in El Paso, Texas.

Laurie graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1976 and she worked as a medical ICU nurse and at several clinics until the birth of her son, and was a member of the Kansas State Nurses Association.

Laurie was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, a member of the University of Kansas Women's Club, an active volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 53 and at Bishop Seabury Academy, and she was also a Certified Master Gardener.

Laurie married Dr. Lawrence "Larry" Magee on May 22, 1982, in Wichita, Kan. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Gabe, of the home; a brother, Fred and his wife, Becky Leonard, of Columbia, S.C.; and a sister, Lyn Wilson and family, of Fairway, Kan.

She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Violet Magee, of Baldwin City, Kan.; brothers-in-law: Dan and wife Connie Magee, of Topeka, Kan.; Mark and wife Cabrina Magee, of DeSoto, Kan.; Shawn and wife Shirley Dawn Magee, of Topeka, Kan.; and her sister-in-law, Sharon and husband Jem Minor, of Baldwin City, Kan.; four nephews and 12 nieces.

The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent it care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
