Tiger debaters compete in five tournaments, earn overall sweeps
Over the past two weekends of debate the Tigers have competed at five different tournaments. On Oct. 22-23, the team competing at Blue Valley North found some success. In the open division, with more than 60 teams competing, the pairing of Kurtis West and Glenn Gaeke earned a 4-1 record that pushed them into the quarter-finals (top 8). At the novice level, Jacob Casselman and Jesse Guerrero also competed against 60 plus teams. They too finished preliminaries with a 4-1 record and a birth to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, the tournament ended there for both Fort Scott teams. The following weekend at Louisburg, an all- novice affair, two Tiger teams separated themselves from the rest with perfect 5-0 records. Teammates Eric Garner and Hayden Shelden joined partners Tyler Slinkard and Chase Gourd in accomplishing this feat.
At the same time, the varsity debaters were in action at Baldwin.
Lead by the 5-0, first-place finish of Jeff Durbin and Leah Casselman, Fort Scott was able to capture the overall sweeps title.
