County needs more volunteer firefighters
Local rural fire departments are looking for more volunteers, according to Bourbon County Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers.
Jeffers said that for many reasons the number of volunteer firefighters in the county is dwindling. He said factors causing the decline are age and volunteers moving out of the county.
According to Jeffers, areas in most need of volunteers are rural parts of the county. He added that volunteers who would be available to respond to calls during the day would be most helpful.
Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact the chief of their local station, he said. Once the contact is made, the volunteer will then begin training. He said volunteer firefighters are put on a probationary status until the first level of training is complete.
