The Eugene Ware Elementary School fourth and fifth grade choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Park Pavilion near the corner of First and Main streets.

Each choir is composed of students who auditioned for the group. Students have given up their time after school once a week to practice in the choir. Many of the fifth grade students are also beginning band and orchestra this year. These are students who enjoy singing and performing.

In addition to the choirs, the Santana family, the owners of La Hacienda Restaurant, will be singing and performing some Mexican dances. The Santanas have spent several hours this week performing for the fourth grade students at Eugene Ware in observance of the Mexican Bicentennial.

The Eugene Ware fifth-grade choir will also perform at Heritage Park Pavilion Friday night. The pavilion is located at the corner of First and Main streets downtown. (Submitted photo)

To close the program on Friday, the Hemphill Family and Friends Band will perform. The band is composed of Jack and Sandy Hemphill, Brad Hemphill, Kristen Hemphill Weeks, Gary Thompson, and Jeff Han. The band plays old country standards, a variety of classic rock songs, and gospel.

The performances, which are part of the weekly Friday night concert series sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division, are free of charge and open to the public. Attendees should remember to bring their own seating as none is provided at the event.
