FSHS chapter of FCCLA travels to leadership conference
Family Career and Community Leaders of American members from across the state recently came together to learn how to be active and involved members and officers at the Take Active Involved Members (AIM) Leadership Conference.
The conference took place Aug. 29-30 at Webster Conference Center in Salina. Representing the Fort Scott High School FCCLA chapter at the event were four FCCLA members and chapter adviser Rita Nienstedt.
District and chapter officers were able to enhance their leadership skills with presenter Pattty Hendrickson while new members spent their time with Rhett Laubach learning more about FCCLA and leadership. Through interactive activities, members were able to discover lessons about how to be a better leader and put them to use in their FCCLA leadership roles.
On Sunday, participants took part in workshops presented by state officers and Peer Education team members. Topics of the workshops included traffic safety, parliamentary procedure, running for an office, careers, and setting and reaching goals. There were also presentations on national programs such as FACTS, Student Body, STOP the Violence and Career Connection.
While the members' leadership skills were increasing, advisors were acquiring more knowledge from national FCCLA consultant Nicole Ruge from Georgia. Advisors looked at the FCCLA national programs and competitive events learning how to implement each one in their chapter, and also shared ideas about a variety of topics.
