Tigers sweep at Erie
ERIE -- Fort Scott High's volleyball team improved to 9-1 on the season by sweeping a non-league quad-rangular here Saturday.
Fort Scott defeated each opponent in two games -- Crest 25-10, 25-19; Erie 25-11, 25-8; and Parsons, 25-21, 25-21.
Crest is a Class 1A school which was a last-minute replacement for Southeast-Cherokee, a team that had been a regular at this quad in previous years.
"We started off really slow," Fort Scott head coach Carol Bingesser said. "We weren't making good setting choices."
Jenna Campbell led the Tigers with 5 kills. Megan McDermed had 4 kills and 11 digs. Kenzie Heatherly was credited with 14 assists. Marliss Allen served 4 aces and had 9 digs and Kori Allen also served 4 aces.
Against Erie, K.Allen was the server for 16 consecutive points during one stretch. She had 5 aces and 6 digs.
"Our play improved dramatically," Bingesser said. "We started making smarter setting choices."
Mallory Shelton had 13 digs, 2 blocks and 2 aces for the Tigers. Kelsey Middleton had 6 kills and 2 blocks. Campbell was credited with 10 digs and McDermed had 6 digs. Heatherly had 13 assists.
Parsons, a fellow Southeast Kansas League school, gave the Tigers their toughest match.
"We played well against Parsons," Bingesser said. "They were a scrappy team and played good defense."
Shelton had 8 kills, 16 digs and 4 blocks. McDermed had 6 kills and 11 digs. Heatherly recorded 12 assists.
The Tigers will play at home for the second time this season Thursday night. Louisburg, Osawatomie and Prairie View will visit for a non-league quad that is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
