Special guests; trip to Dairy Cheese Company

Thursday, September 2, 2010

We were expecting guests for a few days and we were looking forward to their visit with much anticipation. Bob's brother, Al and wife Mike (Marian), who live in Maryland were coming back to Madison to Al's 55th high school class reunion. They would spend a couple of days at daughter Susie and Mike's in Middleton, and after the reunion activities headed up our way on a Monday morning.

They arrived in time for lunch. We were trying to remember the last time that they had been here for a visit, and the best we could come up with was "about" 10 years. So after lunch we sat around the dining room table trying to catch up on all that had been happening in each others lives. They had just gotten home from a cruise that had taken them to Spain. Mike loves to take pictures and had an album full of their fun trip. Al narrated it and it sounded and looked like they had a fabulous time. We spent the rest of the afternoon looking at old photo albums and before we knew it, it was time to get ready to go out to eat.

We had decided on eating at the Rainbow Casino over by Nekoosa, Wisc. We don't gamble but we do enjoy their food, very good and very reasonable.

Tuesday we went into Sandy's Cafe in Pittsville for lunch. We always enjoy eating there and so did Mike and Al.

In the afternoon we decided to go to Rudolph, Wisc., to the Dairy Cheese Company. They are quite famous for their cheese, and have many selections to choose from. Some is made right there. Our first selection of course was their fresh cheese curds. They are so fresh they squeak when you eat them. We finally made our selections and each had quite a good size sack of cheese.

They also have a wee ice cream parlor where they serve quite a variety of ice cream. Mike loves to go there when they come to visit as they have Blue Moon ice cream, her very favorite. It took a while for us all to make our choices, but finally it was time to start slurping that delicious ice cream. They only have two or three ice cream tables and they were full, so we went outside and sat at a picnic table in the shade. We finally finished and decided to head for home.

After we arrived home Bob said, "I will take the sacks of cheese downstairs and put them in the fridge."

When he looked for our sack, it couldn't be found! Who was the dastardly person responsible and the sack carrier? You guessed it, the Old Grey Mare! Can you believe it? I had walked off and left it sitting on the picnic table.

Bob said. "Well ... you can kiss that sack of cheese goodbye."

I couldn't believe that I had just walked off and left it there. I knew if we didn't find it, I was in deep doo doo.

So, I called the cheese company and told the lady my tale of woe, and she said, "I will check."

In a short time she came back and said "Yes, some one had turned it in at the counter."

You could have knocked me over with a feather. I had been praying like crazy and my prayers had been answered. You know there are still some honest people around. While Bob and Al drove back to retrieve the cheese, we started supper.

We grilled out and the evening turned into a fun time, once they arrived home with the cheese.

They had rented a car and would be flying out of Milwaukee, Wisc. It is about a three and a half hour drive from our place so they left about seven on Wednesday morning. The time went much too fast, but we enjoyed every minute of it.
