Uniontown goes 6-0 at Three Rivers tourney

PLEASANTON -- Uniontown swept all six of its matches as it won the Three Rivers League Pre-Season Volleyball Tournament here Saturday afternoon. Pleasanton won its first and last matches of the day to finish at 2-4.

All six of Uniontown's victories were two-game sweeps.

"We have been having great practices in our gym but it's always exciting to see how you team will react on the court against other teams in true game situations," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "Our hitters had a great day thanks to our passers."

The Eagles' matches:

* defeated Marmaton Valley, 25-19, 25-10. Jacy Ermel had 9 kills.

* defeated Chetopa, 25-10, 25-11. Ermel had 12 kills.

* defeated Crest, 25-4, 25-13. At one point, the Eagles held serve for 21 consecutive points, which Hall said is a Uniontown school record. Taylor Rathbun had 3 kills.

* defeated St. Paul, 25-20, 25-12. Ermel had 10 kills and Jessica Harrison had 5. Ashley Nietfield had 9 blocks, either solo or on double-teams.

* defeated Northeast, 25-17, 25-20. Ermel had 8 kills and Rathbun and Harrison had 5 each. Nietfeld and Ermel had 5 blocks each while Camac and Harrison each had 4.

* defeated Oswego, 25-22, 25-13. Ermel had 13 kills and 5 blocks. Nietfeld had 6 blocks.

Pleasanton head coach Danny Looney was pleased with the way his Blu-Jays came out in their first match, a 25-19, 25-12 sweep of Crest.

"We came out with a lot of energy," Looney said. "Our passes were on target and Megan (Lowe) was hitting the ball great."

Lowe had 9 kills. Johnnea Saulsberry dished 9 assists and was credited with 3 digs. Brytnee Streeter had 3 assists.

Pleasanton's other matches:

* Oswego defeated Pleasanton, 25-14, 19-25, 25-22. Lowe had 6 kills and Teal Baker had 5. Karesa Lewis had 7 digs. Saulsberry and Streeter had 6 assists each.

* St. Paul defeated Pleasanton, 25-19, 25-16. Lowe had 5 kills and 5 digs. Saulsberry dished 3 assists.

* Marmaton Valley defeated Pleasanton, 25-16, 12-25, 25-10. Lowe had 5 kills and 7 digs. Saulsberry dished 8 assists.

* Northeast swept Pleasanton, 25-14, 25-23. Lowe had 8 kills while Lewis had 6 digs and Saulsberry handed out 7 assists.

* Pleasanton swept Chetopa 25-17, 25-9. Lowe had 3 kills. Lindsey Conn had 4 digs. Saulsberry had 3 assists.

Uniontown will be on the road tonight. They will go to Girard with Erie there as the third team.

Pleasanton will also travel tonight, going to Frontenac for a quadrangular that will also include Galena and Neodesha.
