Fort Scott Police and Fire departments were busy Tuesday afternoon with traffic accident and a structure fire.

Shortly after noon, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and Third Street for a two vehicle accident. Upon arrival of the scene of the accident responders found a vehicle had collided with the back end of a semi tractor trailer. Authorities said that the woman driving the vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. Hwy. 69 when, for an unknown reason, she crossed over the median and crossed over into northbound traffic striking the guardrail before hitting the trailer.

The Tribune was unable to get the name of the driver and the extent of the driver's injuries.

A few hours after the accident a call came in reporting a structure fire at the vacant house located at 115 S. Little. Following preliminary investigation of the scene, authorities believe the fire may have been started from outside the structure.

According to residents near the house, the house has been vacant for several years. One neighbor said that there have been reports of local youths throwing rocks from the alley and breaking the windows in the house.

As of press time, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage has not yet been determined.
