FSHS Dance Team attends UDA Camp

The Fort Scott High School dance team went to the Universal Dance Association camp held June 21-24 on the campus of Emporia State University.
During the camp, the members of the dance team worked to learn three new dances while others learned five new dances. The team performed the new routines and were then evaluated by the UDA staff. In addition to their new dances, the team was also evaluated on a "home routine" which was choreographed by the team captains. As a result, the team was awarded a blue ribbon, according to interim sponsor Chris Sather.
Five members of the team participated in a team routine and were judged as a group on showmanship, memorization of the routine, and synchronization. Sather said this group also received a blue ribbon. Sather added the team members received 38 additional individual blue ribbons.
To top off the camp, Sather said the team was presented with two trophies. The first was awarded based on the amount of points earned according to the number of participants and total ribbon count. The second trophy was awarded based on leadership. Sather added the recipient of the Leadership Award was determined by a vote from all the participating teams.
"It was a very nice surprise and honor for out team to be chosen," Sather said.
