Turner accepted into UPT

Jerra L. Turner, a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., Class of 2011 and a 2007 graduate of Norfolk Senior High School, has been notified of her acceptance into the US Air Force's Undergraduate Piolt Training (UPT) Program.

Jerra is the daughter of the late Jerry W. Turner and Dr. Keith and Rose M. Brown, Norfolk, Neb. She is the granddaughter of Elfie M. Schnichels, Marmaton, Kan.

Each year approximately 1,100 cadets apply for the position into the program, filling slots for 500, chosen by a panel of board members and staff, with recommendations from each based on merit, academics, along with other accomplishments and qualifications.

This is a rigorous and intense 12-month course which also requires many 12-hour days. This program is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved ground school and flight instruction. Students will log approximately 220 flight hours during this time.

Jerra will graduate in 2011 as a Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. After completion of UPT, she'll be eligible for an advanced pilot training course follow on, making her eligible to fly a specific aircraft in the US Air Force Inventory.
