Gerald E. "Jack" Walrod, age 89, of Prescott, Kan., passed away June 11, 2010 at the Country View Nursing Home in Prescott.

He was born Jan. 18, 1921 in Prescott, Kan., the son of James D. and Cora Nelle Hopkins Walrod.

He graduated from Prescott High School.

Jack married Janie Mae Graham on June 7, 1942 in Mound City, Kan. She preceded him in death Aug. 19, 1992.

He was a Marine Veteran of WWII and a member of the Pleasanton VFW.

He was a self employed trucker and worked for many years at the Farmers Exchange Elevator in Prescott.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jerene "Jerry" Walrod, who passed on Aug. 11, 1970, his parents, three brothers Morris Walrod, Marion Walrod, James Walrod, one sister Annalee Phillips and one great grandchild.

Survivors include two sons Phil Walrod of Elkhart, Kan., John Walrod of Prescott, Kan., four daughters Schery Rupprecht, Pam Balknap, Missy Barrett, all of Fort Scott, Kan. and Polly Wheeler of Prescott, Kan., three sisters Josephine Mayhugh of Prescott, Kan., Evelyn Lubrano of Middleton, Del., and Dixie McDonnell of Coco Beach, Fla., 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Prescott.

Visitation was Monday, June 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Coffel Schnieder Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

Interment followed at Prescott Cemetery.
