Oskaloosa Freewill Baptist Church July 3 activities

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Willa and Charles Cable recently enjoyed a trip to Hillsboro, N.M., where they visited Charles' sister Marge and husband, Tom Myers, who live on a cattle ranch. One of the trip's highlights was a Cinco de Mayo festival at Mesilla, N.M. Charles loves Mariachi music and listened all afternoon to it performed by live Mariachi bands.

It was spring round up time on the ranch. At this time, Marge, nearly 70 years of age, spends eight to 10 hours daily in the saddle on her faithful leased horse, Quarto. She says leasing eliminates a lot of the hassle of ownership. Her leasor is Butch's Rent-a-ride. People wishing to experience the excitement of catching their own horse in real cowboy fashion can participate in Butch's Snag-a-nag program. Marge recently celebrated 60 years riding experience. To commemorate the occasion, Marge wrote a poem:

Sixty years in the saddle; I can't take much more.

Sixty years in the saddle; Man, my bottom gets sore!
