Fort Scott FFA annual parent-member banquet
The Fort Scott FFA held its Annual Parent-Member Banquet April 21. This night, the club celebrated the many achievements over this past year and said goodbye to the seniors. The evening started out with a catered supper by Chicken Mary's, and then moved into the auditorium for a ceremony celebrating a year of hard work and achievements.
The Ag. I class were the first to received awards; their Greenhand Degrees. This is for students who have completed one year of Agriculture Education. Recipients were: Dillon Chadd, Bryce Daly, Dominic Fry, Jacob Gillen, Jonathan Hightower, Dakota Isaac, Jakob Karleskint, Dalton McDonald, Sam Morrell, Laine Parks, Colton Parris, Danyelle Schultz, Frank Scott, Tyier Sharp, Brett Taylor, Karrlie Thorpe, Tyier Weber, Dillon Weddle, Codi Winningham, Natalie Wolf, Krista Wollenberg, Joesph Wunderly, and Tanner Wunderly.
Following the Ag I class, the Ag. II class received their Chapter Degrees. This is for students who have completed two years of Agriculture Education. Recipients were: Adam Arnold, Luke Brown, Dane Cummings, Brooke Gillen, Kolby Harris, Ashley Heckman, Chism Hoener, Heather Humphery, Wesley McCarter, Kelsey Middleton, Caitlin Shorter, Jason Thorpe, and Justin Uhler.
Ag. Ill students have the opportunity to apply for and receive their State Degree. This is done by application to the state and they must have two years of completed records. Recipients were: Seth Bohlken, Bayli Endicott, Colton Grillot, Kaleb Simpson, Trevor Swim, Chelsea Wollenberg, Riley Wunderly, and Tiffany Zimmerman.
Proficiency Awards were next on the agenda. Students have to apply for these awards and the student who has the best program receives the award. Awards were given to: Dane Cummings, Swine Production Placement and Entreneurship; Frankie Embry, Sheep Production Placement; Vegetable Production Placement and Wildlife Production and Management Placement; Bayli Endicott, Home and Community Development Entreneurship and Vet and Medicine Placement; J.W. Meech, Grain Production Placement; Equine Science Entreneurship; Forage Production Placement; Diversified Ag. Production Placement; Beef Production Placement; Ag. Sales Entreneurship; Ag. Mech. Repair and Maintance Placement and Ag. Mech. Design and Fabrication; Frank Scott, Outdoor Recreation; Caitlin Shorter- Ag. Services Placement; Kaleb Simpson, Ag. Services Placement; Diversified Livestock Production Entreneurship; Trevor Swim, Ag. Mech. Design and Fabrication Entreneurship and Beef Production Entreneurship; Amanda Wolf, Poultry Production Entrenurship; Natalie Wolf, Star Greenhand; J.W. Meech, Star Chapter Farmer; and Bayli Endicott, Chapter Star in Agribusiness.
Scholarships were then presented to the seniors. Scholarships given by the local FFA chapter this year went to Frankie Embry, Opal Heckman, J.W. Meech, Kolby Montee, Austin Parks and Amanda Wolf. This year the Mike Pruitt Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Frankie Embry and Amanda Wolf. The Civilla Parks Memorial Scholarships were awarded to her grandson, Austin Parks, to Frankie Embry and Amanda Wolf. And the first Parker McKenney Memorial Scholarship was awarded to her big brother, Reece McKenney.
Guests were then treated to slideshows highlighting the year's activities and fun times as well as the seniors' farewells. Door prizes were then handed out. This years prizes were donated by the following local businesses Miller's Feed and Oil, Fort Scott Livestock Market Inc, Fort Scott Truck and Tractor Inc, Tractor Supply Company, Big Sugar Lumber and Fort Scott High School FFA. Thank you to these businesses for their support.
To end the evening, Fort Scott FFA installed it's officers for the 2010-2011 year. They are Kaleb Simpson, President; Seth Bohlken, Vice-President; Caitlin Shorter, Secretary; Colton Grillot, Treasurer; Chelsea Wollenberg, Reporter; Kolby Harris, Sentinel; Whitney Heckman, Historian; Emily Schnichels, Parliamentarian; and Ashley Heckman, Alternate.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Fort Scott FFA this past year and we are looking forward to a work and fun filled 2010-2011.
