Colburn signs with E. New Mexico

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Paige Colburn, an Overland Park sophomore, has signed to play softball next year with coach Lauren Sigwing at Eastern New Mexico University. Colburn is batting .405, with a team-high 8 home runs and 23 RBIs. "Paige will be able to produce and fit right into Coach Sigwing's program," FSCC head coach Malinda Berglund said.

Colburn's final home games as a Fort Scott Greyhound -- ENMU's teams are also the Greyhounds -- will be this weekend as FSCC (17-22 but winners of 14 of their last 21 games) hosts a first-round series of the Region VI Division II Tournament against Coffeyville. The first two games of the best-of-3 series will be played as a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex. The third game, if necessary, will start at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Sigwing was the head coach at Fort Scott Community College the past three seasons before moving on to Eastern New Mexico, an NCAA Division II school. Last season, the Greyhounds advanced to the finals of the Region VI Division II Tournament before falling to Cowley. Fort Scott finished the 2009 season with a 36-23 record, the most victories in the program's history.

A preview of the playoff series appeared in a Hype Box in Thursday's edition. It can be seen online here.
