5-year-old girl donates to CASA

Cassidy Waide is not your typical 5-year-old girl. During her birthday party last month, Waide decided to accept donations in lieu of gifts.

With the help of her parents, Waide chose CASA as the charity which would be the recipient of the donations. Invitations were sent to all of Waide's pre-school classmates with note inside requesting a donation rather than gifts. Waide even offered to bring her own piggy bank to make a donation.

Waide's parents said they got the idea of making a donation some of their friends who have had similar parties and Waide had not problem with it.

As a result of Waide's party, CASA received a donation of $125. Waide's parents said the main goal was not to raise money, but to raise awareness of what CASA is and does for the community.

Waide's parents said they plan to make the celebration an annual event.
