City clarifies storm siren procedure

Friday, April 23, 2010

The Fort Scott Police Department has issued a statement to make the public aware of storm siren procedures during severe weather.

The city storm sirens will be activated when a tornado warning has been issued for Bourbon County by the National Weather Service. The sirens will be sounded for one cycle, which lasts approximately one to two minutes.

In the event of a confirmed sighting of a tornado by NWS radar, trained storm spotters or city police officers, the sirens will be sounded if there is potential danger to the City of Fort Scott, the sirens will be continually sounded until the threat has passed. There will not be an all-clear siren.
